45,000 Wild Horses Are About To Be Killed By The Government, But There Is Still Time To Stop This

An advisory board just voted to euthanize 45,000 wild horses and burros held in government-run facilities throughout the U.S. to make room for beef mega farms. The recommendation made by the National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), is already garnering negative attention, and for good reason.

While it’s upsetting enough that this would be the biggest mass horse slaughter in history, the fact that it will be funded by taxpayers—who likely do not support BLM’s actions—makes it even more awful!

The BLM is recommending 45,000 wild horses and burros be euthanized to make room for beef mega farms. This would be the biggest horse slaughter in history, funded by taxpayers.

Since the recommendation was made public, the internet has exploded with heartbroken reactions from animal advocates. People are volunteering to assist in any way they can to prevent the killing of so many innocent horses and burros.

The government-run facilities that contain these animals have been overcrowded for years, and the conditions the horses live in are poor. Euthanasia seems to be an easy way out for the BLM, but organizations like The Cloud Foundation are ready to develop alternatives to what amounts to a mass genocide of these animals.

It has not yet been decided exactly when the horses will be killed, so there is still time to take action and prevent this tragedy.

If you’d like to make a difference, contact Sally Jewell, Secretary of the Interior, at 202-208-3100. You can then email BLM at director@blm.gov. Please also add your name to the petition here.
